Casey Moskowitz has danced her way into the hearts of everyone at Huntington High School over the past four years. The senior has decided that when she graduates in June with fellow members of the Class of 2018 she will move on to study at the University of Miami.
A mainstay with the Huntington Highsteppers competitive dance team since her freshman year, Ms. Moskowitz is currently one of the squad’s senior captains.
“As soon as I walked onto the campus of the University of Miami, I knew it was the perfect place for me,” Ms. Moskowitz said. “Not only was it 80 degrees and sunny, but the atmosphere was vibrant and energetic. It is a perfect mix of academics, sports, weather and social life. “I will be studying entrepreneurship in the business school. One of my favorite things about UM is that I can take business classes right away and potentially get internships early on in college.”

The Huntington senior considered Tulane University and the University of Georgia before deciding that the University of Miami was the place for her.
President of the Italian Honor Society, vice president of the Social Studies Honor Society, Ms. Moskowitz has also been inducted into Huntington’s National Honor Society chapter as well as the Math and English Honor Societies.
Ms. Moskowitz has been on Huntington High School’s Relay For Life planning committee for the past three years. She co-chaired the Luminaria Committee as a junior and chairs this year’s Fundraising Committee. She has also volunteered with the high school’s Habitat for Humanity chapter.
“At this point, I would love to own my own business and work my way up to getting a deal on Shark Tank,” Ms. Moskowitz said. “I would also love to do some international business as well, possibly in Italy.
The teenager’s senior year academic schedule includes Advanced Placement Italian, AP Calculus AB, AP Microeconomics, AP Macroeconomics, AP Environmental Science, AP Research and chamber choir.
Ms. Moskowitz has developed many wonderful relationships with teachers, coaches and advisors over the years. She gets along with everyone and is a gentle and kind soul.
“First off, Ms. [Paige] Tyree, my Highsteppers coach has been a large role model in my life and I will never forget the relationship we have,” Ms. Moskowitz said. Mr. [Jamie] Fishlow always pushed me to do my best and really made me step out of my comfort zone during Project Adventure and that has helped me in other aspects of my life as well. Signora [Sylvia] Gilbert and Signora [Natalie] Kopshti have been amazing Italian teachers and really strengthened my love for the language. Mrs. [Lauren] Desiderio taught the first Advanced Placement course that I took and AP World was one of my favorite classes because of her. I know if I ever want to talk to someone about anything, I can go to her.”
The Highsteppers dance team is an activity that has been near and dear to Ms. Moskowitz’s heart throughout high school. She’s been to the national championships with the squad and made many good friends among her fellow dancers while also developing a close relationship with Ms. Tyree, who teaches business classes in the district.
“I’ve known Casey since having her as a student in eighth grade,” Ms. Tyree said. “She was a star in the classroom and went above and beyond on all of her assignments and projects. She sets high expectations for herself and is remarkably self-motivated. Throughout her high school career, I was lucky enough to coach her on the Highsteppers team and she displayed that same work ethic as a dancer and as a captain. Always reliable, respectful and ready to put in the work. Above all else, Casey is extremely positive and always shows up with a smile and an excellent attitude. Miami is lucky to be getting her next year!”
Highlights of the past four years include Homecoming Float Night and Relay For Life. “Both of these events are amazing because the majority of the school attends and Huntington really feels like a family together.”
The Huntington High School community will miss the energy, enthusiasm and bright smile that Ms. Moskowitz brings to the building each day.
“Overall, my experience at Huntington has been wonderful,” Ms. Moskowitz said. “The friends and faculty that I became close with has been the most meaningful part of my experience and I will always remember them.”
