Nine Huntington High School student-artists are exhibiting work at the Huntington Arts Council’s High Arts Showcase XIV at the Main Street Gallery in the village.
An opening reception is set for this Friday, March 9 from 6-8 p.m. The exhibit will run through March 31. It showcases the work of several dozen gifted junior and senior artists from six Long Island school districts that participate in the Huntington Arts Council’s Journey program, “which fosters the appreciation of cultural diversity through the arts.”
Artist and art educator Nicole Franz will present Awards of Excellence during the opening reception. Located at 213 Main Street in Huntington village, the Main Street Gallery is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday from 12-4 p.m. Admission is free.
The Journey program was founded in 1985. It’s a multicultural arts-in-education initiative that was established to foster the appreciation of cultural diversity through the arts and integrating cultural arts into classroom curriculum. The High Arts Showcase is a component of the program.
“The artistic talent and creativity among students at Huntington High School continues to draw attention locally and beyond,” Superintendent James W. Polansky said. “The Huntington Arts Council provides a professional venue in our own backyard within which to experience the work of several of these students. Please make an effort to enjoy it between now and March 31.”

“What an amazing experience for our high school artists to have the opportunity to show their work during the High Arts Showcase,” said Eric Reynolds, district director of fine and performing arts. “We are incredibly lucky to have a gallery on our very own Main Street and enjoy a special partnership with the Huntington Arts Council that provides so much, especially to our students. The art students and staff at Huntington High School have worked extremely hard over the last few months toward this goal of exhibiting work on a professional level and deserve all of the accolades that come along with an achievement like this. Congratulations to Nancy, Christina, Michael, Emma, Maggie, IsabellaRose, Olivia, Katherine and Christina on having their work adorn the walls of the Main Street Gallery for all the town to see!”
The nine Huntington students with pieces on display in the showcase are joined by top artists from the Commack, Harborfields, Northport-East Northport, South Huntington and Plainview-Old Bethpage school districts.
