Jefferson Primary School honored its February Citizens of the Month Award recipients during a ceremony in the gymnasium.

Principal Valerie Capitulo-Saide presented coveted certificates to Kennya Alvarado, Lilian Aparicio Beltran, Giselle Avelar, Claire Carmody, Steven Contreras-Moreira, Naomi Curtis, Sutter Flynn, Francesca D’Eloia, Kevin Domingues, Sheila Giron Morejon, Grace Gonzalez, Xavion Greene, Jordyn Gross, Brian Maldonado, Jeffrey Murillo Ramirez, Keyri Pacheco-Mojico, Esthefany Michelle Ramos, Andrea Reyes and Loreen Rodriguez Ulloa.

The group stayed assembled long enough for a commemorative photo with Ms. Capitulo-Saide to be snapped.

The Citizen of the Month Award is known informally as the Spot Award. Why? Well, when a Jefferson student displays commendable behavior, teachers and staff members “spot” the youngster. An all-grades assembly is held each month to recognize the students who have been “spotted” the most.

Still a little fuzzy about the whole concept? Here’s an easy to understand answer. The Jefferson School mascot is a jaguar, an animal known for its spotted appearance. Every Jefferson student is trying to get spotted so they can be an award winner, too.

With less than four months remaining in the 2017/18 school year, the Jefferson School community is looking forward to many fun events.

There is a special mother/son event planned for later this month. The Parents as Reading Partners program grand finale is slated for Friday, March 23. The PTA’s Pasta Night is scheduled for Friday, April 20. A talent show will be held on Friday, May 11 at 7 p.m. A reception for volunteers is planned for Wednesday, June 6. A concert for Jefferson’s musicians will be held at the high school on Thursday, June 7. This year’s field day is set for Friday, June 8.

Jefferson will hold a celebration for its departing third graders on Tuesday, June 19. The school will say goodbye to its fourth graders during a ceremony and party scheduled for Wednesday, June 20.
