Sydni Bosley is one of the most practical teenagers you’ll ever come across. The Huntington High School senior has a great grasp of who she is and where her interests lie and she’s mapped out a plan to start pursuing her dreams at SUNY Old Westbury.

“SUNY Old Westbury was one of my top three schools,” Ms. Bosley said. “I have always been interested in it because the campus is so beautiful. I also like the fact that it isn’t too far from home, but still feels like I’m in a new environment.”

Over the past four years, Ms. Bosley has been a regular at the Huntington YMCA. “Every
summer since eighth grade I volunteered as a counselor at the YMCA’s performing arts camp,” she said. “This has been a major part of my life and has taught me so much. I have met some of my closest friends there and discovered my true self. I’m a creative individual and I have always been interested in all areas of the arts. The YMCA has given me so much inspiration and is honestly the place where I feel I can truly express myself.”

The Huntington senior has spent a considerable amount of time reflecting on her interests and in which direction she wants her life to go. “I definitely want a career within the arts, although I’m not entirely sure which area I would like to go into yet,” Ms. Bosley said. “I plan on spending my time at Old Westbury to find what my passion is and then transfer to a more specialized college.”

The senior is popular with her classmates and she’s been able to develop many wonderful relationships with the high school’s faculty members.

“I have been extremely lucky in regards to my teachers over the past four years,” Ms. Bosley said. “I have become close to so many of them and I feel like the teachers at Huntington have given me so much support and knowledge that I will always hold onto throughout my lifetime. Some of my favorite teachers have included Mr. [Anthony] Troffa, Mr. [Michael] Graziano, Ms. [Camille] Tedeschi, Mr. [Matthew] Bilello, Mrs. [Kathleen] Sambour and Mr. [Robert] Gilmor. Mr. Gilmor has really been my backbone throughout high school from freshman year up until now. He is always there for me no matter what the situation and has provided me with a tremendous amount of support. I can always count on him to help me and give me advice.”

Highlights of the past four years include Huntington’s annual Homecoming Day festivities. But the “biggest highlight” was “definitely” a private trip to Panama with EF Tours that was led by social studies teacher Camille Tedeschi. “It was so unbelievably life changing to experience another culture and be immersed in such a beautiful country,” Ms. Bosley said. “It is something I won’t ever forget and I will always be so grateful to Ms. Tedeschi and Ms. Sylvia [Belanger] for taking me on such an amazing adventure.”

As she prepares to graduate with Huntington’s Class of 2018 next Friday night and begin classes at SUNY Old Westbury this fall, Ms. Bosley is ready for the next stage in her life, but she will always remember her high school experiences.

“Overall, my experience of Huntington High School has taught me so much,” Ms. Bosley said. “I’ve had many ups and downs throughout the years, but everything I’ve gone through has pushed me to become stronger and grow into the person I was always meant to me. Without my peers and teachers at Huntington that never would have been possible. I feel so lucky to have been a part of this school. I’ve met so many amazing individuals that have really opened my eyes and made me who I am today. My best friend, Sigrid Cassell has really motivated me and stuck by my side through everything, which is something I will always be so grateful for. Huntington is my home and my family and I will never forget that.”
