The Huntington High School robotics team is in the process of reorganizing itself for the 2018/19 school year.
The program is set to enter its sixth season. It was founded in September 2013 and has captured an assortment of awards at regional competitions and repeatedly qualified for the FIRST Robotics world championships.
Abigail Holmes will serves as captain of Huntington Robotics during the 2018-19 season.
The new season will feature Abigail Holmes as the team’s captain and David Mosden as vice-captain. James Obermaier is set to serve as chief technology officer and Jennifer Low will be chief of business operations. Madelyn Kye will fill the post of outreach coordinator. Adam Neber will be the team’s head of statistical strategy. Luke Farrell will serve as head of awards.
Technology teachers Brian Reynolds and Omar Santiago are the team’s faculty advisors. Retired Huntington technology teacher Edward Parry volunteers his services as a third coach.
Officially known as FIRST Team 5016, Huntington Robotics maintains a website at www.team5016.com. The site contains information about the program and photos of past highlights.
“Huntington Robotics Team 5016 was created in 2013 with the goal to educate students in the Huntington community with practical STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) learning techniques, while incorporating real-world business aspects of modern corporations,” according to the organization’s most recent brochure. “Team 5016 welcomes students from Huntington High School in an effort to combine essential knowledge of technology with the professional skills needed for success.”
Huntington Robotics team members can be found at a variety of district and community events, from back-to-school night and Safe Halloween at the high school to the Huntington Foundation’s annual gala at OHEKA castle, charitable and public service events in Heckscher Park and robotics related evening programs at Huntington UFSD elementary schools.
