A group of 14 exceptional Huntington High School athletes was presented with Section XI Gold Key awards at the 50th Blue Devil Senior Athletic Awards Banquet in Louis D. Giani Gymnasium.
The Gold Key is the highest honor a Suffolk athlete can receive for sports participation, according to Huntington Director of Athletics Georgia D. McCarthy. This year’s Blue Devil recipients include Michael Abbondandelo, Nicole Abbondandelo, Nicole Arenth, Samuel Bergman, Niamh Condon, Clayton Jamison, Michael Marziliano, Alexandra McKenzie, Arkim Pierre, Brian Pierre, Cathryn Ricciardelli, Nicolas Sanin, Katie Seccafico and Amber Stieve.
Huntington Superintendent James W. Polansky formally presented the awards to the recipients. The Gold Key is a county award emphasizing participation in interscholastic athletics while recognizing proficiency in performance. The award is presented in every Suffolk high school to students who have lettered in eight seasons on varsity or junior varsity teams between their sophomore and senior years
“It is always a pleasure to present the Gold Key awards, as they never fail to be earned by those not only who have left their mark athletically, but also who have left their positive legacies within the greater school community,” Mr. Polansky said. “This group is no exception. You hear their names often because have been so deeply involved in all aspects of curricular and extracurricular life at Huntington High School. I wish them nothing but the best as they open the next chapters of their lives.”
