The Huntington Booster Club is sponsoring a late summer Friday night girls’ lacrosse clinic for those in grades 2-8. The program will run on August 3, 10 and 17 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at Huntington High School. No advance registration is required. Participants can submit a permission form on the day of the clinic.

The clinic format promises to be light on talking and heavy on playing and having fun. Blue Devil lacrosse alums and current college players Katie Reilly (Princeton University) and Emma DeGennaro (Brown University) are taking the lead with the program. Fellow Huntington grads, who are also currently in the college playing ranks will also make appearances throughout the program over three August Friday nights.

The suggested cash donation is $10 per session or $25 for all three. Those who are unable to cover the cost will be admitted for free. The Booster Club is hoping the clinic attracts a diverse group of girls that mirrors the Huntington School District’s overall enrollment. Those new to the sport are welcome and encouraged to attend.

A two-page clinic flyer is currently posted on the Huntington UFSD’s website at www.hufsd.edu. The first page includes information about the clinic while the second page consists of a registration form and permission slip. Participants should complete the form and submit it on the first day of the clinic; Friday, August 3. Clinic organizers will be available at 5:30 p.m. on that day to register girls and answer any questions about the clinic.

Players should bring their own equipment to the clinic. Some lightly used equipment will be available for use. Any player in need of equipment for the clinic should call or text Katie Reilly at (516) 551-5968 in advance of the first session.

The clinic will stress fundamentals and having fun by playing lacrosse. There will be a variety of games, drills and activities and some special surprises. There won’t be much sitting around listening to the coaches talking. Girls should come ready to run around and play lacrosse for 90 minutes.

Players of any ability level are welcome. Ms. Reilly and Ms. DeGennaro are among Huntington’s best players ever. They are both entering their junior year at their respective Ivy League college. They’ve arranged to have some of their former Blue Devil teammates, who are also currently playing college lacrosse to make appearances at the Friday night clinics.

“We hope this clinic will spur interest in girls’ lacrosse among a cross-section of our students in the district,” Huntington Booster Club President Tim Pillion said. “This is a great summer activity for an August Friday night.”
