The Huntington High School junior varsity boys’ tennis team turned in a solid season, compiling a 6-4 record and showcasing many fine underclassmen.

Coached by Robert Gilmor III, the squad included freshmen Jonathan Apeisinov, Aaron Chin, Aiden Lefebvre, Nathan Ribando and Richard Rongo and sophomores Jack Monahan, Nathan Musso, Daniel Petrylka, Jose Suarez, Nicholas Thompson, Brandon Varady, Javier Vias and Bryce Vitulli.

“What a great year with all the boys,” Gilmor said. “They are young and eager to learn so we are excited about next year. I am very hopeful that in the off-season the will continue to work on their tennis and next year we will have an even stronger team.”

Huntington sustained a pair of one point defeats to Smithtown East and a third by a single digit to Northport. “Three of our four losses were by the smallest of margins and in some instances, the difference between us winning or losing came down to very few points,” Gilmor said. “Our wins were very strong, but our strongest win came when we were able to overcome our neighbor, Harborfields in a well fought meet.”

Gilmor believes many of his JV players are ready for the next level. “The competition, with the exception of one or two boys, is very equal on varsity and JV so with hard work and dedication any of my players have the potential to move up,” he said. “I plan on helping to improve their skills in the off-season so that next year our program is the best it can be.”

Monahan led the Blue Devils on and off the court. “His hard work propelled him to our No. 1 singles position by mid-season,” Gilmor said. “Many of the returning players worked hard, but more importantly remained excellent role models for the incoming players.”
