A Flower Hill Primary School first grade class visited the Long Island Children’s Museum in Garden City this week and the youngsters were mesmerized.
Teacher Priya Mondkar has bright, inquisitive children in her class and the students felt right at home during the field trip. Shortly after arriving at the museum the group was immersed in hands-on activities in science with a special emphasis on dinosaurs, patterns and engineering.
Students were able to identify specific dinosaurs as an instructor brought them throw a lessons that connected these ancient and fascinating beasts to present day animals, including chickens and turkeys.
“Long Island Children’s Museum is a learning space devoted to the busy work of play,” according to the facility’s website. “Our exhibits, programs and performances fuel creativity and collaboration to inspire millions of aha moments. At the museum, children master skills and uncover passions that will stay with them throughout their lives. The future is always present here! A trip to be remembered by all.”
Many parents joined in the fun, accompanying the class on the trip. The Flower Hill youngsters enjoyed having their loved ones nearby. The simple fact is that these first graders have a “thing” for science. They just can’t get enough of it. It intrigues them in all of its many facets and focuses and it provides them with countless hours of intellectual delight.
A graduate of Half Hollow Hills High School East, Ms. Mondkar earned an undergraduate degree at Boston University and a pair of master’s degrees at LIU-C.W. Post College. She has been on the Huntington UFSD faculty since 2004.
