Washington Primary School students received awards last week for their classroom efforts and respectful natures around the building as well as for their sensational artistic abilities.
Principal Marsha Neville read the names of the honorees over Washington’s public address system. When they heard their respective name, each of the youngsters marched down to the main lobby with a big smile on their face. Once there, the children were given a certificate that commemorated their accomplishment.
The Washington Ways initiative focuses on recognizing and rewarding positive behavior while encouraging students to be safe, respectful and responsible. Students across all grade levels are given various colored tickets by teachers and support staff members for exemplary behavior. The tickets can be presented to the youngsters throughout the day.
January’s honorees include Leslie Cisneros Morales, Ashley Avalos Cedillos, Gabriella Zielinski, Austin Roberts, Helena Sullivan Cristian Diaz-Orlando, Luke Rubery, Annie Lopez-Berrios, Ariel Alvizures Uceda, Ava Vega, Olash Alvarez, Deyvin Corado-Perez, Kely Bonilla Ortez, Lauren Dopico, Gemma Bedell, Jhony Moreira, Aris Cruz Guevara, Roodes Similien, William Brooks, Xavier Garcia and Cyrah Rabino.
The entire classes of teachers Tina Balducci, Miriam Engle, Kalkau and Peri Alfano were also recognized for their exemplary effort and performance throughout the month of January.
Students are quite aware of the Washington Ways program and the reason it exists. They are happy to be recognized with a colorful ticket. They quickly give the ticket to their classroom teacher so a notation can be made and it can be credited to them. They love telling their parents about their recognition, too.
