SCOPE's summer arts program at Huntington offers classes for students entering grades 3-9.

The SCOPE Summer Creative Arts Learning Experience program at Huntington is taking shape.

Held in collaboration with the Huntington School District, summer arts program classes will run from Monday, June 25 through Friday, July 20 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. A detailed program brochure and registration information are being finalized now and will be released soon.

Courses will be open to all students entering grades 3-9. Students from surrounding school districts are welcome, provided they supply their own musical instrument. All courses will be held at Huntington High School.

Coordinated by Huntington music teacher Brian Stellato, last summer’s program featured many traditionally popular courses. There were classes in musical theatre, glee club, introduction to acting, pop and show tunes workshop, beginner percussion, percussion ensemble, beginner brass, beginner flute, flute ensemble, jazz band, intermediate band, beginner saxophone and clarinet, beginner violin and viola, beginner cello and bass, ROCKestra!, intermediate orchestra, electronic music composing, beginner piano, Ukulele Jam Band I and II, modern jewelry making, Chalk it Up! Painting, ceramics, cartooning, digital photography, polymer clay and painter’s palette.

Students are also able to get a head start on a new instrument during the summer program. Beginning instrument lessons will again be available in small groups for those entering grades 4-9. The course will be provided for students who wish to learn how to play the violin, viola, cello, bass, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, baritone, tuba or percussion. This is a beginning level course designed for students who have never played the instrument and have been assigned this instrument by their school music teacher. A lesson book is provided.
