Peyton Kalb is in the midst of a great run through Huntington High School. The junior is excelling at everything, from her classroom studies to music and sports. She’s even volunteering at a hospital in the community.

Ms. Kalb began her trek through Huntington UFSD at Southdown Primary School, where she participated in the dual language program. She’s made plenty of friends since then and has endeared herself to faculty members in departments across the academic spectrum.

The junior has been a member of the Huntington’s varsity volleyball and crew teams and has performed with the Blue Devil marching band and the high school’s wind ensemble. Ms. Kalb volunteers at Huntington High School and in a nod to her exceptional academic record she has been inducted into the National Honor Society as well as the Spanish, Science and Social Studies Honor Societies.

The teenager has done some traveling during time off from school and Ms. Kalb is planning to do even more. “I went to visit my best friend in Canada last summer and will be traveling to Peru in April with EF Tours and many of my classmates,” she said.

Ms. Kalb’s closest friends include Lia Shechter, Shannon Anderson, Benna Cumella and Sadie Walters. She’s loyal, considerate and easy to talk to and she’s always prepared to help someone that needs her.

“Peyton is an amazing friend with a great heart,” Ms. Shechter said. “I’m so lucky to have her as my best friend.”

Ms. Kalb’s favorite teachers include Lori Kenny, Dianna Cazzalino, Brian Stellato, Jason Giachetti and Danielle Raguzin. She has really hit it off with everyone since she started in kindergarten all those years ago at Southdown.

“Peyton is an endearing student who has a love for the sciences,” Mrs. Kenny said. “She has excellent enthusiasm toward investigating different scientific research and welcomes feedback to improve her skills. Throughout the years she has always been a “go-to” student for peer mentoring and assisting with the daily functions of the research course. I am excited to see her accomplishments in the coming years as well.”

The teenager’s academic schedule includes classes in Advanced Placement Seminar, AP Spanish, AP Chemistry, AP US History, Science Research, pre-Calculus AB and Senior Band.

“Peyton is Ms. Reliable,” Mr. Stellato said. “She is so extremely dedicated and hard working. I know I am always getting her best.”

Ms. Kalb has always been a high-achiever and she displays no signs of letting up as she inches closer to graduation. “Peyton is a burst of energy,” Mrs. Cazzalino said. “She’s a diligent worker and takes all the challenges of AP Seminar in stride.”

The teenager possesses many talents any one of which would be impressive in its own right. “Peyton is an extraordinary person,” Mr. Giachetti said. “She leads by example and is incredibly dedicated to our music department.”

While college and what comes beyond is still rather far off in the distance, Ms. Kalb has been giving both some thought. She is considering pursuing a career as a pediatric physician assistant and she’s looking at Marist College, Quinnipiac University and several other schools that offer a five year PA program.

“I absolutely love going to high school at Huntington,” Ms. Kalb said. “My experience has been a little rocky, but great so far. I hope I can finish it out well.”
