Washington Primary School students are bringing some holiday cheer to United States military service men and women by penning letters to uniformed personnel.
The initiative is being coordinated by teachers Tina Balducci and Peri Alfano. Ms. Balducci is using a connection she has with US Army Major Christopher Capasso to distribute the letters.
Major Capasso, who has served in the US Army since 2007 and who completed several tours in Afghanistan, has visited Washington School several times and met with students, sent them cards and military badges from across the country and globe and facilitated the distribution of letters during similar past campaigns.
Washington School teachers explained to their classes how the writing of such letters is a “nice gesture” and how much the military vets look forward to receiving the missives.
“It was wonderful to see all the heartfelt letters and pictures from the students at Washington and be able to continue such a nice tradition,” Ms. Balducci said. “The letters were heartfelt and included thanking the veterans for their service, wishing them a happy holiday and sharing their own holiday wishes.”
Washington School Principal Michelle Richards embraced the letter writing project. The letters are being boxed up and sent on their way to Major Capasso and his colleagues.
“The Washington Primary School family wishes all veterans currently serving and those who have served in the past a happy holiday and a safe return home,” Ms. Balducci said.
