Senior Morgan Minicozzi capped off her spectacular career with the Huntington High School field hockey team by playing in the Suffolk All-Star game at Patchogue-Medford on a recent cold night under the lights.

The All-County Blue Devil was chosen to play in the game after turning in her best season ever. She helped lead Huntington into the playoffs this fall and has been a mainstay in the program for many years.

“I feel very honored that I was chosen,” Ms. Minicozzi said. “I remember as a freshmen that I was below the playing standard compared to the other girls. Over my time at Huntington, I really began to work on the basic techniques and eventually joined a club team. Without that club, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I had no stats throughout high school until junior year with two assists. Then this year, I actually had my first goal and eventually put in a couple more. I believe that being chosen was a big step for me, proving that all the work I put into field hockey truly paid off.”

Suffolk’s finest seniors were split into red and blue teams with Ms. Minicozzi placed on the red squad. “We did not have practice prior to the game, but I felt like we were able to connect right away,” the teenager said.

Huntington coaches Kathy Wright and Allison Conlon were at the game to cheer on Ms. Minicozzi. The senior’s family was in the crowd, too. “I believe I got chosen for my determination and stick skills and my ability to play and compete with other girls,” she said.

Ms. Minicozzi had an overnight visit to Adelphi University last weekend. She went home afterwards and thought about it and then decided to commit to the highly regarded college located in Garden City.

The teenager plans to study nursing and play on Adelphi’s field hockey team. “The nursing program there is well known and I will be able to balance it out well with field hockey,” Ms. Minicozzi said. “I believe that this will be the best option for me.”
