Anna Wickey is one of the Huntington High School’s brightest stars. She has garnered many accolades on field hockey and softball fields as well as in the classroom. The junior has a winning personality, too.
There is little doubt that Ms. Wickey is an exceptional athlete. But her friends know her as a loyal, supportive and compassionate presence in their lives and the teenager’s teachers love her for her positive attitude and willingness to contribute to class discussions.

The junior’s current academic schedule includes Advanced Placement United States History, AP Seminar, Psychology, Journalism, pre-Calculus AB and Regents Physics.
Ms. Wickey’s closest friends include Beanna Cumella, Riva Bergman, Maddy Meidenman, Casey Coleman, John Panos, Rocio Trujillo and Jennifer Low.
“Anna is one of my best friends,” Ms. Bergman said. “She always makes me laugh and I love her personality; she’s always in a good mood. Although I have never played a sport with her, although I wish I have, I am sure she gives 150 percent every day and never gives up. She always knows how to brighten my day.”
Ms. Wickey is a very popular young woman, who has certainly won over her teachers and classmates with her upbeat attitude and disarming smile. “Anna is one of the closest friends I’ll ever have,” Mr. Panos said. “She’s one of the most amazing people I know. I can’t wait to see what she does with her talent. I know she’s going to be perfect.”
The teenager said her favorite faculty members include English teachers Kelly Krycinski and Dianna Cazzalino and science teacher Amelia Saggese.
Besides playing on Huntington’s varsity field hockey and softball teams, Ms. Wickey plays on one of Long Island’s best club field hockey squads. She began playing the sport as a sixth grader and has rapidly advanced. She has even helped teach the sport to young girls at clinics.
Ms. Wickey is in the midst of being recruited by colleges to play on their field hockey team and she is sorting through career possibilities. “I’ve always been interested in physical therapy, but I’m still discovering other careers,” she said. “As for college, I hope to play NCAA Division I field hockey as I am currently communicating with college coaches.”
The teenager is enthusiastically looking forward to life as a college athlete. “Although it’s going to take a lot of time and effort, I think that I’ll prosper as a student-athlete since I work well when I have little down time and a busy schedule,” she said.
Ms. Wickey is in no rush to make a commitment concerning the future. “It’s difficult as a junior to decide what I want to do as a career since there are many factors to think about,” she said. “I want to make the right decision when the time comes and not rush into something that I may regret.”
Ms. Wickey likes staying busy. Outside of her academic and athletic responsibilities she works part-time at a local bakery. “It has helped teach me to balance schoolwork, sports and other commitments,” she said.
The junior spends a lot of time participating in community service activities, especially Community Solidarity, the largest vegan food share in the country. “I help my dad pickup food from different supermarkets and distribute it to those in need,” Ms. Wickey said. “On Tuesdays, we distribute to the Huntington Station location and on Sundays to the Hempstead location. This is very significant to me since I know food is not being thrown away and is instead being given to those who need it most.”
Volunteering countless hours to community service activities has been a valuable experience. “By participating in Community Solidarity, I’ve realized how lucky I am and maybe this will become an avenue in my future career,” Ms. Wickey said.
The teenager found the time to captain a Relay For Life team as a freshman and sophomore, helping to raise funds for the American Cancer Society.
Each day brings some type of new adventure into the junior’s life and she would have it no other way. She enjoys daily interactions with her friends, teammates and teachers and finds it easy to have fun along the way.
“I’ve had such an amazing experience in the Huntington School District,” Ms. Wickey said. “Even while I was attending Washington Primary School, I knew it was where I belonged.”
Well into her junior year, Ms. Wickey is taking delight in her classes. She was recently named to the Suffolk All-County field hockey team. She’s looking forward to softball season in the spring.
“Throughout my career as a student, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting so many incredible people whether it’s my teachers who guide and teach me or my friends who are always there when I need them,” Ms. Wickey said. “Every school I’ve attended here in Huntington has shaped me both as a student and just as a person in general, especially the high school where I’ve really discovered who I am. I wouldn’t trade my Huntington memories or experiences for anything!
