Huntington High School’s Habitat for Humanity club chapter has been indefatigable over the years, traveling near and far to help build housing for those who need it most. Club members are now “upping their game” by hosting an outdoor music festival on Saturday, May 12 in a drive to raise $5,000 to support crucial ongoing initiatives.
Spread across five hours, the upcoming Bands for a Build festival promises to be a lot of fun. Event organizers have secured a large stage from the Town of Huntington. Bands will take to the stage from 2-7 p.m. and play sets that are sure to be pleasing to the crowd’s ears.
The band festival will benefit Huntington's Habitat for Humanity club.
The music festival is the brainchild of Habitat for Humanity President Quinn Blackburn, a Huntington High School senior. All proceeds will go to the organization’s efforts to help those who had their homes wiped out by hurricanes that tore through Texas.
Some of the bands will feature current Huntington students and faculty members who also happen to be spectacular musicians. Tickets are being sold to students on a pre-event basis for $5. Tickets will also be available at the gate for $7 for students and $10 for adults.
The lineup of bands includes Poor Sylvester, No Apple, Snow Day, Bud Santana & Nandi Finesse and Triple M Fiesta.
Poor Sylvester consists of Teddy Holly, Aidan McCooey, Katherine DeGennaro, Mikey Colon, James Ahern, Nick Haupt, Aidan Walsh, James Obermaier and Will Mejia.
No Apple includes musicians Matt Motherway, Jack Salzman, Nick Paul and Conor Atkinson.
Snow Day features Brenden Cusack, Frank Battista, Matt Gelfer, Eric Reynolds, Rob Krakehl and Mark Dara.
Bud Santana & Nandi Finesse and Triple M Fiesta are comprised of amazing musicians, too.
“We are reaching out to local businesses to ask for sponsorship in the production of this event,” Mr. Blackburn said. “We will be happy to print up posters and/or signage for each sponsor as well as to give verbal recognition at the event.”
Interested in supporting the cause and helping Huntington High School’s Habitat for Humanity club members’ efforts at the Bands for a Build music festival. Contact club faculty advisor Robert Gilmor III at either (631) 673-2170 or rgilmor@hufsd.edu.
Joining Mr. Blackburn on the club’s executive board are Kyle Chin (treasurer) and Casey DiGiacomo (secretary). The group includes about 100 members.
Senior Bethany Danziger is handling marketing and public relations for the music festival. Organizers are hoping the event attracts a large crowd, which is sure to have a blast.
“The music festival is a highly anticipated event for Habitat and it has been a very long time since we have had an event that effects so much change for so many deserving people in Texas that lost so much,” Mr. Gilmor said. “Quinn Blackburn has worked so hard and I am hopeful that many, many people will take the time to come out and enjoy some amazing music.”
