They operated nearly entirely behind the scenes, but the fruits of their efforts were clear for all to see during performances of the Huntington High School drama club’s musical Cinderella.
Huntington’s stage crew features an exceptional group of talented teenagers who display a “can do” attitude. Present them with a challenge and watch their eyes light up.
Technical director Glenn DeVeau oversaw the stage crew, coordinating his team, instructing them on the intricacies of their respective roles and keeping everyone on task and motivated.
From the sound, lighting and backstage tasks to set building and painting this exceptional group of young men and women sparkled during the recent show. Obscure technical details were attended to with ease and a touch of professionalism.
The stage crew is assigned substantial responsibility during any production, from developing a visually appealing and functional set and individually controlling hundreds of auditorium lights to moving equipment back and forth between scenes and making sure the wireless sound system works effectively. There are hundreds of details to worry about on any given day, yet no one seems to get their “feathers ruffled.”
Mr. Deveau and his stage crew work closely with Huntington drama club advisor Michael Schwendemann. Planning starts months before the curtain rises for the audience.
The stage crew working on Cinderella was an essential part of the overall team of actors, musicians and advisors that made last weekend’s show the smash hit it was.

“Although there were a lot of barriers with the weather and time, I feel like stage crew really pushed through and the musical turned out great,” Mr. Blackburn said.
