Washington Primary School student leadership team members recently collected hundreds of non-perishable food items to benefit the Helping Hand Rescue Mission in Huntington Station. The items were used to help create over 200 baskets that were distributed to families with children between the ages of 3-12 during a celebration at the Mission.
Teachers Debbie Quiles and Vivian Joseph are the leadership team program’s faculty advisors.
Superintendent’s Assn. to Honor Huntington Duo
Huntington High School seniors Aidan Forbes and Joel Alfaro have been invited to the annual Suffolk County School Superintendent’s Association awards luncheon at the Hyatt Regency Wind Watch Hotel in Hauppauge on Thursday, May 31.
Mr. Forbes will be honored as Huntington’s Class of 2018 valedictorian. Mr. Alfaro will presented with a prestigious scholarship by the organization during the affair.
Huntington Superintendent James W. Polansky will be attending along with Huntington School Board President Thomas DiGiacomo and Huntington High School Principal Brenden Cusack.
Mr. Polansky said the twin honors for the two teenagers is a “testament to the hard work and efforts” the duo put forth throughout their academic careers in the district.
Memories of Huntington’s K-Factor Won’t Fade
Huntington High School’s Key Club outdid itself organizing what can arguably be called the finest K-Factor talent show ever last month. The evening raised thousands of dollars that will be dedicated to helping fight the ongoing battle against cancer.
Students, faculty and support staff members turned in more than two dozen incredible performances on the stage before a crowd of hundreds. Key Club members also secured a spectacular array of more than three dozen raffle prizes. English teachers Kelly Krycinski and Gina Collica are the group’s energetic faculty advisors.
The show’s top awards were presented to: First place: Chloe Wheeler; Second place: Jai-la’ Bush; Third place: Juliet Marinello.
HHS Alumni Association Throwback Planned
The Huntington High School Alumni Association is planning its second annual “throwback” on Sunday, June at Finnegan’s Restaurant @ Tap Room on Wall Street in Huntington village. There will be food and refreshments and plenty of alumni on the scene. The organization is expected to release more details soon.
HHS Class of 1988 Reunion
Huntington High School’s Class of 1988 will hold a 30th anniversary reunion of Saturday, July 28 from 7-11 p.m. at Coindre Hall. Tickets are on sale for $125.
The evening will feature unlimited refreshments, carving stations, unlimited passed appetizers, an antipasto table, a DJ and dancing, coffee and dessert. There will be valet parking. Everyone will receive an “alumni favor.”

Huntington’s Share of BOCES Budget
The Huntington UFSD has been informed that its share of the Western Suffolk BOCES administrative budget will rise $12,358 to $218,111 during the 2018/19 school year. The district’s share of capital charges is set to rise $8,373 to $144,083. The combined amount of $20,730 is based on a three-year average of the district’s “resident weighted average daily attendance” formula.
The administrative budget contains costs of central administration and the post-retirement benefits of Western Suffolk BOCES employees. The capital charges cover costs for the rental of facilities and the capital projects fund.
Western Suffolk BOCES is comprised of 18 component districts. Those districts will vote on the Western Suffolk BOCES administrative budget on April 24.
Election Chairperson Appointed
The Huntington School Board has voted unanimously to appoint Trustee Bari Fehrs as election chairperson for the district’s annual budget vote and trustee election on Tuesday, May 15. Voting will be held in the Huntington High School lobby from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Donations to the District
Mr. & Mrs. James Brown have donated a Selmer clarinet and flute to the Huntington UFSD’s music department. The donation carries an estimated value of $600.
Exxon Mobil donated $500 to J. Taylor Finley Middle School to support math and science programs.
The Huntington Special Education Parent Teacher Association (SEPTA) donated $3,487.79 to support nine different mini-grants applied for by faculty members throughout the district.
The Washington Primary School PTA donated $2,020 to offset the cost of field trips.
The Huntington Foundation for Excellence in Education (HFEE) donated $3,855.10 to support seven different mini-grants applied for by faculty members throughout the district.
