Cailan Polishook is a thoughtful young woman, full of energy and enthusiasm and fiercely loyal to her family and friends. One of the most popular Huntington High School Class of 2018 members, the teenager has decided to continue her education next fall at Binghamton University.
Ms. Polishook’s current academic schedule includes Advanced Placement Calculus, AP English Literature and Composition, AP Drawing and Painting and Forensics.
“As students are told to apply to at least one SUNY school during application season, Binghamton was my choice, but I never thought I would end up there,” Ms. Polishook said. “When I stepped foot onto the campus, I was amazed by the immense amount of kind people and room for student growth and career development. It’s also nice to know that it’s a ‘Long Island SUNY’ and many Huntington students go there.”

The Huntington senior considered Sacred Heart University and Marist College, but after she evaluated all of the possibilities and what each of them had to offer, she decided that Binghamton University was an excellent match.
“I hope to be a high school math teacher,” Ms. Polishook said. Considering her formidable work ethic, academic achievements and ability to get along well with everyone, it seems assured that not only will she one day stand at the head of a classroom, she’ll be one of the best at doing it.
A member of Huntington’s National Honor Society, English Honor Society and Tri-M Music Honor Society chapters, Ms. Polishook spent four years performing with the Blue Devil marching band, serving as a section leader as a junior. She is the president of the Natural Helpers club, which helps students work through personal issues and is the secretary for AWOD (A World of Difference) club.
Ms. Polishook has developed many wonderful relationships with teachers throughout her time in Huntington. “Mr. [Robert] Gilmor, Mr. [Brian] Stellato and Mr. [Jason] Giachetti are the people who have guided me get through high school,” the teenager said. “This year as a senior I am particularly close with Mr. [David] Moriarty and Mr. [Jason] Gould as I have the pleasure of interning with them to learn the means of being a great teacher. All of my high school mentors are amazing role models of the type that I aspire to be.”
Among her high school highlights are “endless marching band rehearsals, the state championship at the Syracuse Carrier Dome and Natural Helper retreats,” Ms. Polishook said.
Private trips coordinated by EF Tours to the Galapagos Islands and four Eastern European countries provided a lifetime of memories. The treks with classmates were led by Huntington High School social studies Camille Tedeschi, who has been bringing groups all over the world with EF Tours for many years.
The teenager never plans to forget where she came from. “Huntington will always be my home no matter how far away I may live in the future,” Ms. Polishook said. “This school is one that offers encouragement to follow your heart and inclusion for everyone. After graduation, I will forever remember the faces that have crossed my path here.”
