Kyree Johnson is happy. The Huntington High School alum is studying at Texas A&M and running on the Aggies track and field team with former Blue Devil teammate and best friend Infinite Tucker. What could be better than that?

Johnson won county, state and national championships with the Blue Devils and was heavily recruited by many of the top college programs in the country. He visited several schools, but it seems like it was destiny that he ended up on the same campus with Tucker.

Johnson and Tucker have a competitive relationship and they push one another. Texas A&M is a perennial NCAA Division I powerhouse with a long list of team and individual national titles. This year’s roster is similar to past ones. It reads like an All-Star squad. Turn left, turn right, look forward or backward and you will see a state champion or an All-American.

While Johnson was clearly a star at Huntington High School, he is now just one of many great athletes on the Aggies roster. “The track team is great here,” he said. “I’m training with multiple collegiate record holders, NCAA champions and world level contestants.”

Johnson is pursuing a business-finance academic major. He said his “main goal” is to one day represent the United States in the Summer Olympic Games.

“I’m currently enrolled in four classes and also have a mandatory study hall Monday through Thursday,” Johnson said.

Texas A&M is in the midst of constructing a new track and field facility. The 90,500 foot complex includes a nine lane sprint and hurdle straightaway down the middle of a nine lane running oval and a dual field event area.
