The Huntington Foundation has announced that ten dynamic teenagers will comprise its youth board for the 2017/18 school.
Francine Nastasi, Abby Fernandez, Casey Moskowitz, Bethany Danziger, Katarina Obermaier, Alyssa Befumo, Kyle Chin, Zach McGinniss, Naomi Ponce and Rachel Moss have all been named to the Youth Board.
Ms. Nastasi will also be serving as the Huntington Foundation for Excellence in Education’s general intern. She will work directly with Alice Marie Rorke, the organization’s president. “We will work on grant seeking, corporate soliciting, marketing and PR,” Mrs. Rorke said. “We will also take two-three field trips into Manhattan and to Adelphi University to The Foundation Center and the Not-for-Profit Learning Center to do research on foundations and grant opportunities in pursuit of benefactors.”
Abby Fernandez will also be interning with the Huntington Foundation. The teenager will work with the organization’s gala chairperson, Kimberley Steinberg to help plan and executive the Reach for the Stars fundraising extravaganza at OHEKA Castle in March. “She will be an asset as well as an integral part of the success of the gala,” Mrs. Rorke said.
The youth board members represent a diverse cross section of high school students and interests. “We have an amazing group of students on our youth board this year,” Mrs. Rorke said. “The kids are very committed, excited and ready to go!”
The youth board members are just as exciting to serve on the body as Huntington Foundation officials are to have the teenagers in their midst.
“We want the youth board and intern experience to be a positive one that allows each student to learn and grow in all areas of working on the board of a non-profit organization,” Mrs. Rorke said. “Hopefully their experience working with a 501(c)(3) will enhance not only their resume, but their future endeavors as they journey on to college and beyond.”
