A steady stream of visitors explored this week’s Huntington School District art show, with most expressing surprise that the work was created by students ranging in age from five to 18. The pieces on display covered just about every type of art.
The annual event is timed to coincide with the district’s budget vote and trustee election. Voters were encouraged to walk down the high school’s main hallway from the lobby to the gym, where thousands of works awaited visitors.
There were also afternoon and evening fashion shows last Tuesday. Folks of all ages stopped to watch students display their designs on the catwalk.
“As I walked around the art show, the quality of the pieces shown got better and better with each turn I made,” said Eric Reynolds, district director of fine and performing arts. “The time, effort and care our young artists put forth to complete these projects is tremendous.”

Huntington UFSD's annual art show
featured delightful exhibits.
The show utilized about two-thirds of the Louis D. Giani Gymnasium. The exhibits were professionally displayed and easy to navigate. There was something for everyone to appreciate.
“Kudos to our K-12 art faculty who not only are consummate professionals, but approach and deliver instruction with the highest expectations for artistic achievement by all of our students,” Mr. Reynolds said. “I must acknowledge Kim Valerio for putting on a fashion show that rivals events during NYC Fashion Week. The variety of garments created by Kim’s students would certainly fly off of the racks in any store. The support and passion for art education held by our district and community was evident over the last two days. I am grateful that we can showcase the talents of our students and be so warmly received year after year.”
