The leading members of Huntington High School’s Class of 2017 will be honored on Thursday, April 27 at the Distinguished Seniors dinner in Louis D. Giani Gymnasium.
The 14th annual dinner will recognize Huntington’s top senior scholars, who have all maintained a 90 or better GPA for the seven semesters that school officials used for their calculations to determine eligibility.
The distinguished seniors were asked to select one teacher to be honored from the first school they attended in the district and from each of their subsequent schools. The teenagers took their responsibility seriously and made their selections based upon personal experiences that struck a chord with each of them, both individually and as a group.
The seniors will recognize teachers Barbara Denis (Flower Hill), Luz Marrotta (Jefferson), Carlene Cournane (Southdown), Susan Turner (Washington), Paul Esposito (Jack Abrams), Maryann Daly (Woodhull), Kimberly Finneran (J. Taylor Finley) and Aimee Antorino (Huntington High School).
The teachers are being recognized by the teenagers for having “influenced their success,” Principal Brenden Cusack said.
A small group of seniors will introduce each of the faculty members with heartfelt remembrances. Each teacher is expected to speak briefly, recalling their experiences with the now-seniors.
The catered dinner is expected to draw a crowd of 300 seniors, parents, faculty members and school officials. Mr. Cusack along with Superintendent James W. Polansky and Huntington School Board President Thomas DiGiacomo will also briefly address the crowd. PTA officials from each of the district’s eight buildings will also attend the affair.
