Four months into the 2017/18 school years, Washington Primary School students are shining. Principal Marsha Neville recently presented several dozen students with awards and the youngsters were naturally quite pleased with themselves.

Mrs. Neville recognized students who were cited by their teachers for exceptional efforts throughout the month of November. The names of the honorees rang out over the building’s public address system. One by one they walked down to the main lobby and were given an attractive certificate. The group then posed in the main lobby for a commemorative photo with the principal.

November’s Washington Ways Award recipients included Isla Campbell, Ayat Baig, Anthony Aguilar Gomez, Ethan Hobbi, Justin Vujeva, Howard Rosenstone, Annabel Cassatto, Manuelle Hernandez Colon, Samantha Martinez, Sabino Gomez, Jonathan Sevilla-Munguia, Olivia Lee, Andreana Vlahos, Sebastian Jimenez, Devin Splendorio, Ninalee Davis, Madelin Vanega Alvarado, Andy Flores, Daniel Romero, Dago Garcia Lazo and Sheily Corado Perez.

The entire classes of teachers Suzanne Dinehart and Dianne Davis were recognized as November’s Blue Ticket Award honorees.

Here’s how the Washington Ways program works:

White tickets are awarded weekly for good behaviors and actions in the classroom. White ticket winners are honored with special recognition in their classroom at the end of each week and their names are announced every Monday morning.

Red tickets are presented to individuals for notable good behavior outside of classrooms, including in hallways, buses, the playground and cafeteria, etc. At the end of the month, the student in each class with the greatest number of red tickets is recognized with a special certificate.

Entire classes can earn blue tickets for positive group behavior out-of-the-classroom. Blue tickets are also awarded to the two classes within the building with the most tickets overall.

Featured Artists of the Month

Mrs. Neville also presented Featured Artist of the Month Awards to Sophie Tarry, Austin Roberts, Savannah Grigg, Savanna Sturges, Annabel Cassatto, Jackson Perkins, William Respass III, Zachary Smith, Griffin Zarcone, Ashlin Perez, Jose Reyes Granados, Bryan Lopez Ramirez, Nirjhor Rahman, Jaylin Barquero Garcia, Timmy Tiliakos, Ninalee Davis, Connor DiBenedetto and Emely Moreno.

Each member of the group received a certificate and a medallion hanging from a red, white and blue ribbon that they wore around the neck. Their artwork is now on display in the school’s main hallway across from the cafeteria. The students are in classes taught by art teacher Maria Mazzola.
