Huntington School Board members have approved out of town trips for the Blue Devil marching band and the Highsteppers competitive dance team.
Trustees approved the marching band’s participation in the New York State Field Band Conference Championships in Syracuse. Band members will depart from Huntington High School on Saturday, October 29 at 1 p.m. and return on Monday, October 31 at 4:30 p.m. Band staff members Jessica Castaneda, Brian Stellato and Jason Giachetti will lead the group.

Approximately 115 band members and 20 adult chaperones will comprise the traveling party. “This is the culminating activity for the Honors Band course,” states the trip application provided to trustees. “Students will participate in a statewide competition and receive a critique of their musical, visual and marching performance.”
The Highsteppers were approved to travel to Orlando, Florida for the Dance Team Union Nationals in February. The group will be led by coaches Paige Tyree and Jessica Harris.
The Highsteppers will depart MacArthur Airport in Ronkonkoma on Thursday, February 2 and return on Monday, February 6. The traveling party is expected to consist of 16 team members and six adult chaperones.
“The team members of the Huntington High School Highsteppers will participate in a series of dance competitions on a national level,” according to the application provided to trustees. “All team members have expressed an interest in attending.”
