The J. Taylor Finley Middle School early winter sports season will kick off on Monday, November 7 for the seventh and eighth grade boys’ basketball teams and the girls’ volleyball team.
Officially known as Winter-I (New York State middle schools have separate early and late winter seasons designated as I and II), dozens of Finley students are expected to participate in tryouts and ultimately earn spots on the three teams.
To be eligible for a tryout, students must have submitted an updated physical exam report with the Finley nurse and be cleared for participation. They must also submit a parent permission slip.

Boys’ Basketball Tryouts (seventh and eighth grade teams)
Location: Louis D. Giani Gymnasium at Huntington High School
Dates: Monday, Wednesday and Thursday (November 7, 9-10)
Time: 3:15-5:30 p.m.
Attendance will be taken in the Finley gym before players will board shuttle buses that will transport them to the high school for tryouts. Students should bring all backpacks, etc. with them. Parents must pick-up their children promptly at 5:30 p.m. from the high school.
Girls’ 7th/8th Grade Volleyball
Location: J. Taylor Finley Middle School gymnasium
Dates: Meeting on Monday (November 7) 3:00-3:30 p.m.; Tryouts on Wednesday and Thursday (November 9-10) and Monday and Tuesday (November 14-15)
Time: 3:00-5:00 p.m.
Parents must pick-up their children promptly at 5:15 p.m.
