Three longtime members of the Huntington High School softball program were honored at the 48th annual Blue Devil senior athletic awards banquet in Louis D. Giani Gymnasium last month.
Huntington head coach John Walsh spoke movingly about Annie Trousdell, Kelsey Jamison and Samantha Conte, telling a crowd of about 330 that the three teenagers will be sorely missed by their coaches and teammates.
Mr. Trousdell captured the team’s Most Valuable Player Award after a wonderful final season in blue and white. She is headed to Binghamton University where she plans to study biology. She performed with the high school chamber orchestra, was a Natural Helper, volunteered at the Little Shelter Animal Rescue & Adoption Center in Huntington and participated in the Relay For Life fundraiser for the American Cancer Society in each of the past four years.
Ms. Jamison earned the Most Improved Player Award. She is moving on to Farmingdale State College, but eventually hopes to study at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. The teenager helped organize a whiffle ball fundraiser as a senior to benefit the Blue Devil Special Olympics program.
Samantha Conte garnered the Coaches Award. She plans to study mechanical engineering at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey. President of the Key Club, the teenager was active with Huntington’s Habitat for Humanity chapter, traveling to New Orleans to help rebuild that city following Hurricane Katrina and also participated annually in the high school’s Relay For Life fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.
“These three young women have left their mark on the Huntington softball program,” Mr. Walsh said. “While we are very sorry to see them leave us, we are very excited for what the future holds for each of them.”
