The Huntington wrestling team is looking ahead after a season that saw the Blue Devils compile a 5-3 mark.

The squad was coached by Travis Smith, Kieran Mock and Peter Fusco. Nine Blue Devils qualified for the county tournament.

Huntington defeated West Babylon (47-34), Bellport (42-39), Manhasset (51-28), Deer Park (54-30) and Kellenberg (49-33). The Blue Devils dropped dual meets to North Babylon (48-35), West Islip (49-31) and Half Hollow Hills West (52-36).

All-League and All-County senior Ryan Mock finished third in Suffolk Division I at 113 lbs. to pace Huntington. Sean Flick, Aiden McDonald, Charlie O’Rourke, Robert Simon, Ryan Stieve, Charlie Gadson, Tazadon Smith and Khari McNeil all captured All-League honors.

Mock was cited as the “hardest worker” while Simon was named “most improved.” Stieve was “most determined” and McNeil was “most feared.” Gadson was named “most liked” by his teammates and coaches.

Mock led the team in wins and team points. “The team worked hard all year,” Smith said. “They battled in every match.” Gadson, McNeil, Mock, Simon and Stieve are seniors. The team will return 16 wrestlers next winter, including two that are currently eighth graders and nine who are ninth graders.

Among the returnees will be All-League grapplers Flick, O’Rourke, McDonald and Smith. “We expect the competition in the league to be similar to this past season,” Smith said.
