After falling to second place Hauppauge earlier this week, Blue Devil boys’ swimmers find themselves still flying high. The squad is 6-3 overall and 5-2 in Suffolk League II.
Coached by Meg McConnell and Jeremy Cuebas, the combined Huntington/Harborfields team is in third place in the league standings behind only Sayville/Bayport and Hauppauge. West Islip, East Hampton/Bridgehampton/Pierson, Deer Park, Stony Brook and North Babylon trail behind.
The combined Blue Devil team has defeated Deer Park (99-80), North Babylon (87-76), West Islip (54-48), East Hampton/Bridgehampton/Pierson (100-81) and Stony Brook (53-38) in league meets and Connetquot/East Islip (94-90) in a non-league contest.
Huntington/Harborfields’ only losses are to Hauppauge (103.5-82.5), Sayville/Bayport (96-90) and League I foe Half Hollow Hills (95-85).
The Huntington/Harborfields roster includes 13 Blue Devils, including seventh graders Jonathan Larice, William Spada and William Weber; eighth graders Kyle Kennelly and Thomas Rosselli; freshman Daniel Maier, Jack Stewart, Javier Vias and Christopher Weber and sophomores Henry Cartwright, Nathaniel Gamboa, Max Gordon and Thomas Peer.
The Suffolk League II championships are set for February 2 at Hauppauge. The Section XI diving championships will be held at Hauppauge on February 16 with the swimming championships at Suffolk-West in Brentwood on February 18. The state championships are scheduled for March 4-5 at the Nassau Aquatics Center.
