Huntington School Board members voted unanimously to set breakfast and lunch prices for the 2017/18 school year. Trustees set the price for breakfast at $1.80, elementary lunch at $2.55 and secondary lunch at $2.90. The price for milk will be 50 cents.
Trustees also passed a resolution authorizing the district’s continued participation in the National School Lunch and Breakfast Program. Trustees pledged that “all state and federal regulations pertaining to the School Meal Program will be adhered to by the Huntington Union Free School District.”
Huntington’s food service program is self-sustaining in nature. In addition to daily lunch, breakfast is also available. The district aims to serve healthy, nutritious and good tasting food items. Prepaid discount lunch and breakfast tickets are available, reducing or even eliminating the need for students to carry cash.
Trustees awarded a bid for food service management services to Whitsons School Nutrition Corp. during their public meeting on August 7. Five companies received bid specifications and Whitsons and Aramark Education Services, LLC participated in a vendor conference and tour of the district on July 12.
Companies submitted bids based on an estimated 97,681 breakfast meals and 494,715 lunch meals in 2017/18 for a total of 592,396 meals.
The district plans to continue striving to serve healthy, tasty, fresh and overall nutritious breakfast and lunch meals throughout the new school year.
