The Huntington High School boys’ soccer team rallied to tie Deer Park, 1-1 in a key Suffolk League IV game. The Blue Devils trailed at halftime, 1-0. Olvin Palma tied the game in the 73rd minute off an assist from Jason Catarino. Neither team could break the deadlock in overtime. Renato Aguilar stopped 10 shots in goal for Huntington.

Carey Steps in with Color Commentary

Brian Carey stepped in for the regular announcer during last Saturday’s Huntington football game against Rocky Point surprised the crowd with color commentary along with play by play coverage.

Fans are accustomed to hearing just the facts, such as yardage, penalty calls, which player got the tackle, etc. But, Carey gave them so much more, putting a little extra spin on each play.

Carey is the Blue Devil’s varsity boys’ basketball coach and he’s known for his booming voice. On Saturday, he even announced the names of various dignitaries in the crowd, including Huntington alum and current New York State Supreme Court Justice W. Gerard Asher.

H-ton VB Wins 3-0

The Huntington girls’ volleyball team defeated visiting Comsewogue, 25-7, 25-19, 25-18. It was the Blue Devils’ fourth victory of the season. Hayley Petrizzi and Rebecca Caballero each recorded five aces in the match.

Lynch Scores on Breakaway

The Huntington girls’ soccer team scored first and second half goals to best host West Babylon and gain a berth in the Section XI playoffs. The Blue Devils’ first goal came just 16 seconds into the game on a breakaway by Samantha Lynch. Katy Laurie scored off a feed by Katie Reilly with about six minutes remaining in the second frame. Goalie Taylor Moreno made nine saves to nail down another in a long line of shutouts. West Babylon goalie Caroline Galdorisi stopped 12 Huntington shots.

Ellyn Byrnes Scores Twice

The Huntington High School field hockey team rebounded from a tough loss by shutting out host Centereach last Saturday afternoon, 4-0. Ellyn Byrnes had two goals. Anna Tesoriero and Sarah Fernandez each had a goal and an assist. Tara Byrnes stopped six shots in goal to record the shutout.

The Blue Devils led at halftime, 2-0. Centereach goalie Dominque Almodovar had 10 saves.

Molly Arceri Shining at Towson University

Molly Arceri is now a junior at Towson University where she is a member of the swimming and diving team. The 2012 Huntington High School graduate has qualified for the NCAA Diving Zones Championships for the second consecutive season.

Against the College of William and Mary and Georgetown University last Saturday, Arceri won the one-meter diving event with a score of 304.03 and finished second in the three-meter event after tallying 281.85 points. Both scores were personal bests. “Molly is doing all new dives so winning the one-meter, that’s a great sign,” head coach Pat Mead said. “It’s one thing to come in and win but when you’re doing all new dives and putting up those scores; that’s phenomenal."

A three time county champion for the Blue Devils, Arceri was the silver medalist in the state championships as a junior. She is majoring in psychology and hopes to become a lawyer. The avid New York Yankees and New York Giants fan enjoys running as a hobby.

Arceri was named the Colonial Athletic Association’s Diver of the Week after her sterling performance against Georgetown and William & Mary.

Great Game but H-ton Falls

It was a great game, but the Huntington field hockey team fell to East Islip, 3-1. Tara Byrnes made nine saves in goal. Irina DeSimone scored for the Blue Devils.

Blue Devil Soccer Senior Day

The Huntington boys’ soccer team will host its Senior Day next Wednesday prior to a huge game against rugged league foe Hauppauge at 4 p.m. The Blue Devils could be playing for at least a share of the team’s first league title since 1989. A boys’ under-nine team from the Huntington Boys Club will play at halftime of the varsity contest.

Huntington’s seniors include Wilson Martinez, Santiago Alzate, Josh Canales, Will Rodriquez, John Reilly, Justin Fuentes, Scott Gulizio, Dan Reiver and Steve Shivers.

Rocky Point Tops H-ton

The Huntington field hockey team dropped a 4-1 verdict to tough Rocky Point on Tuesday afternoon. The Blue Devils trailed 3-0 at halftime. Emma DeGennaro scored the team’s only goal off an assist from Anna Tesoriero. Cara Sorrentino made 12 saves in goal. Huntington had seven shots stopped before they could go into the goal.

H-ton Golf is Undefeated

The Huntington golf team won its 12th match of the fall when it swung past Half Hollow Hills West, 8.5-0.5. Jim Smoot and Justin LoTurco both shot two over par 39 at Cold Spring Hills Country Club.
