Calling all Crew to Chili’s Restaurant
Friends of the Huntington High School crew team are sponsoring a fundraising event at Chili’s Restaurant located at 4000 Jericho Turnpike, East Northport at the Huntington Square Mall. On Tuesday, November 10 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Chili’s will donate 10 percent of all sales generated by customers who present the crew team’s special flyer for the event.
The Blue Devils are hoping the flyer makes its way around town to neighbors, friends and families. To access the flyer, log onto the Huntington School District’s website at www.hufsd.edu and click on the homepage link for Athletics and then on Forms & Files or access the team’s e-Board at http://www.huntingtoncrew.eboard.com/.
The special flyer must be presented in order for the meal to be included in the fundraising event. Residents who have nothing to do with the crew program can still help support the Blue Devils by heading over to Chili’s on November 10 and presenting the flyer.
The crew program periodically organizes fundraising events because the sport’s equipment can be quite expensive. For example, each oar can run $300 to $400 and even used boats cost between $10,000 and $18,000 so team members take repair and maintenance seriously in order to extend the life of the equipment they have. Repainting a boat costs several thousand dollars but keeps it in racing condition. Tuning an oar with new parts can save hundreds of dollars over the cost of replacing.
Over the years, the Huntington crew program has built an impressive reputation up-and-down the Eastern seaboard. The Blue Devils have consistently featured highly competitive rowers
