Finley Boys’ Basketball-7 Displays Steady Improvement

Steady improvement is what the J. Taylor Finley Middle School seventh grade boys’ basketball team displayed throughout the winter season.

The 16-player squad was coached by Rich Agnello and captained by Trevan Meagher and Chad Rowe. The Falcons compiled a 3-7 mark.

Meagher, Rowe and C.J. Kiviat were Finley’s top players. Kyle Green, Torin Bograd and Aaron Chin were the most improved. The highlight of the season came in a two point win over “always tough” Commack, Agnello said. “Frank Chirico and C.J. Kiviat had big buckets late in the game,” the coach said. “Chad Rowe led us to victory.”

Rowe enjoyed a wonderful season with the Falcons. “He’s an explosive athlete with a great all-around game,” Agnello said. “He has excellent court vision and is a fantastic scorer from inside and out.”

Meagher displayed superb footwork in the post. “He’s an outstanding rebounder and shot blocker,” Agnello said. Kiviat made his mark as an extremely coachable and hardworking player. “C.J. is a very good post scorer, excellent rebounder and defender,” Agnello said.

The roster also included Thomas Combs, Harrison Cozine, Zachary Gordon, Liam Hassett, Ethan Mcguinness, Daniel Orefici, Christopher Segreti, Elijah Still and Jason Turner.

Finley claimed victories over Commack (42-40) and Lindenhurst (38-18 and 41-35). The Falcons dropped contests to Candlewood (45-27, 45-36 and 45-35), West Hollow (60-25 and 48-46), Commack (50-34 and 44-33) and

“It was a great group of boys that improved greatly throughout the year,” Agnello said. “This was evident when we lost to West Hollow by two points in our second meeting. In our first meeting we trailed by 35 points.”
