Washington Students with Perfect Attendance Recognized
On the final day of the school year, Washington School Principal Marsha Neville recognized a group of 27 students spanning from first through fourth grade for having perfect attendance in 2015/16.
The youngsters honored on Thursday included Clemente Alvarez, Michael Ambrozy, Matthew Ambrozy, Aadi Bhardhwaj, Robert Campbell, Christ Castillo Martos, Nicole Chang, Brandon Cohen, Valerie Ferreira, Jeffrey Flores Andrade, Andrew Ganley, Devin Lopez-Hernandez, Olivia McGreevy, Jibreel Murtaza, Rebekah Mustafa, Chelsey Olivo, Jocelyn Perdomo-Gudiel, Areanna Quijada Rivera, Julissa Quintanilla, Kathy Sanchez Gomez, Marilyn Santamaria Galdamez, Abby Schueller, Daniel Simon, Kaylee Smalling, Ronan Sosnowski, Heileen Torres and Stacia Watkis. Ms. Sanchez Gomez has missed a day of school in three years. Ms. Santamaria Galdamez didn’t miss a day last year, too.
Last year, nine students were in attendance every single day and the year before there were 12 students so honored. In 2013 the group of students that never missed a day totaled 16 while in 2012 there were 28 students with a perfect attendance record. In 2011, perfect attendance awards went to 14 youngsters. Washington traditionally has a very high rate of daily attendance and this year was no different.
Mrs. Neville read the names of the students over Washington’s public address system and then presented each of them with a special achievement certificate. The group posed for a commemorative photo.
“This is a commendable achievement demonstrating a true commitment to learning,” Mrs. Neville said. “It’s always wonderful to recognize children who simply love coming to school. We enjoy working with them each day.”
