Erin Plante Enjoys Studying at Morrisville State College
Erin Plante made a name for herself around Huntington High School as a pleasant and positive young woman. The Class of 2014 member just completed her sophomore year at Morrisville State College in upstate New York and one-by-one she’s reaching each of her goals.
“I absolutely love it,” said Ms. Plante when asked how college was going. The Huntington alum is studying for a degree in equine science and farm management with a concentration in business.
She’s already completed the courses necessary for an associate’s degree and now she’s moving on toward a bachelor’s degree. “I’m looking to possibly minor in human services, social services or maybe psychology along with the equine bachelor’s that I’m finishing up,” Ms. Plante said. “I am so moved by horses and humans working together. I really believe horses help make us stronger leaders not only for them, but for ourselves as well. So that is why I hope to work with a therapy farm facility for my internship.”
Ms. Plante became a resident assistant during the spring semester of her sophomore year, taking on a leadership role on the campus. “This is a job in itself being that I am a supervisor, in a way, of the floor I live on in college,” she said. “This has created so many opportunities for me to grow as a person and will hopefully help my resume, because I’m always looking to build it. It really is a rewarding job and I plan to continue doing it through graduation.”
During the second semester of her freshman year, Ms. Plante became an admissions ambassador at Morrisville. “I have learned to answer the phones for the office of admissions and help with the admissions events,” she said. “My favorite part is giving tours to prospective students. This job has also given me many opportunities. The staff is wonderful and I am constantly meeting new people that visit the college.”
The Huntington grad is even helping out with Morrisville’s football team. “My roommate and I asked the coaches if we could help out with the team,” Ms. Plante said. “So we became managerial staff along with the person who was working with them for a while. We help film the games and practices as well as help with the equipment. I truly enjoy working with the well-respected coaches at my school. They have taught me so much about the tough sport of football and I have so much more to learn.”
Ms. Plante was named a Distinguished Senior after compiling at least a 90 academic average during every semester over four years at Huntington High School. She participated in various clubs, took delight in her art classes and was a stage crew member.
“I still have a lot more to eagerly learn and I continue to feel blessed for all of the experiences that I have had so far,” said Ms. Plante about her time at Morrisville. “I have met so many wonderful people that I thank for what they teach me.”
She might be 240 miles from home, but Ms. Plante isn’t about to forget where she came from. “I couldn’t be where I am today without every single experience I have had in the past,” she said. “I will never forget my time spent at Huntington High School, where many teachers and mentors I came across left a big impact on me and my life.”
