A Tradition of Excellence since 1657

Kayla Eidle Captures Huntington
Music Award

A long run of excellence in performance and leadership was capped off when senior Kayla Eidle captured Huntington High School’s Overall Contributions in Music Award.

Ms. Eidle was one of three drum majors for this year’s Blue Devil marching band, which won the New York State Field Band Conference championship. She credits maintaining a positive attitude and surrounding herself with trustworthy friends as key’s to her success.

“It was an incredible honor to receive the award for Overall Contributions in Music,” Ms. Eidle said. “I couldn’t be happier. In the past four years, the Huntington music department has been an integral part of my education. Each of the teachers are incredibly inspiring, welcoming and accommodating and have fostered my passion for the subject, so I have them to thank the most.”

The teenager is headed to the University of Delaware in the fall where she intends to pursue a music major. “The Huntington music department not only helps students develop skills in music, but also teaches them lifelong lessons in leadership, cooperation and plenty others,” she said. “I’m so thankful to have been selected for such a meaningful award.”

Ms. Eidle has also been a wonderful athlete on the Blue Devils winter and spring track and field teams. “Kayla has been a key ingredient to the success of our walkers and our track and field program,” Huntington girls’ track coach Shawn Anderson. “She started out as a middle distance runner, but soon she teamed up with Christine Simpson and became a 1-2 punch for the walking crew. She really broke-out last year.”

As a captain this year, Ms. Eidle led quietly by example. “Her heavy workload and commitment to the music programs at Huntington never seemed to interfere with her leadership and commitment to athletics,” Mr. Anderson said. “She really worked well with the new incoming walkers. Her only goal was to break eight minutes in the 1500m walk. Well, indoors she set the record of 7:50.75 and outdoors she did even better, recording a mark of 7:39.96.”

Ms. Eidle garnered All-League and Academic All-County honors this year. “With her work ethic, enthusiastic personality and positive attitude, I fully expect her to thrive and make an immediate impact at University of Delaware,” Mr. Anderson said.
