Southdown School Honors its Stars
A sensational year wrapped up at Southdown Primary School with Principal Scott Oshrin and the building’s teachers honoring three dozen outstanding students during a school-wide Splash assembly in the gym.
One Southdown student is selected from each class in the building for formal recognition. The school considers these youngsters to be its stars. The final assembly of the year was a celebration of sorts, with the school community basking in the glow of many educational triumphs, both big and small.
Southdown’s mascot is a dolphin, a mammal known to breach the water surface and splash bystanders. The school’s students are awarded “splashes” for displaying positive behavior in and out of the classroom, being kind to others, demonstrating proper behavior in hallways and even boosting the spirits of someone feeling down. The youngsters are honored at the monthly Splash assembly.
May’s stars included kindergarteners Reily Martinez, Nikolay Caldwell, Ty Swazey and Ethan Meza; first graders Anderson Avalos-Coreas, Tommy Nicotra and Jaipreet Singh; second graders Isabelle Gregorio, Christopher Yanes and Gabriela Amaya; third graders Layna Abraham, Yexson Molina, Chabla and Donna Lazo; fourth graders Hunter Borenstein, Kevin Moraga-Velasquez, Enzo Pupillo and Britany Delao-Romero.
