Appliance World of Huntington decided it wanted to “give something back” to the young people of the community, so it reached out to the Huntington School District and offered to present a $500 scholarship to a graduating senior with an exemplary record of service on the local, state or national level. This year’s recipient is Ms. Dayton, a bright, witty and articulate young woman who captured the admiration and respect of the entire high school community.
Appliance World’s Michael Nathan was on hand at Huntington’s senior academic awards ceremony in the high school auditorium to present the company’s scholarship to Ms. Dayton and speak briefly about her sensational credentials.
A family owned business, Appliance World opened its doors in 1992. It is located at 414 New York Avenue in Huntington village. The company also has a store in Oyster Bay.
President of the Nathan Hale chapter of the National Honor Society at Huntington High School, Ms. Dayton compiled remarkable academic and co-curricular over the past four years. One of three general event chairs for last spring’s Relay For Life, the teenager also found time to serve as vice president of Huntington’s Habitat for Humanity chapter.

A member of the Blue Devil fencing team, Ms. Dayton found success wherever she directed her attention, whether it be academically, athletically, Huntington’s club program or her personal pursuits. The articulate young woman was accepted into an array of top tier colleges, with many scholarship offers. After careful consideration she chose Fordham’s Rose Hill campus for the next step in her life.
“Kaitlin has routinely demonstrated her intelligence, motivation and well-roundedness as a student,” Huntington Superintendent James W. Polansky said. “More importantly, she is among the kindest and most compassionate young adults one will meet. She will surely continue to make a positive difference in all of her future pursuits.”
