H-ton Grad Rachel Feltman Finds Michigan Amazing

It’s one of the biggest universities in the United States, but it’s just the right size for Rachel Feltman. The Huntington High School Class of 2014 member has embraced life at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, diving into classes and activities.

“I have been having an amazing time at Michigan so far,” Ms. Feltman said. I am taking economics, psychology, a biology lab and a freshman writing class. I’m enjoying each class, but it’s definitely a lot more reading than I was prepared for.”

Ms. Feltman was a very good student at Huntington High School and she took many challenging courses, but college academic life requires a period of adjustment, even for the most accomplished young scholars.

“I spend a lot of time in the library studying and working on assignments,” Ms. Feltman said. “I joined Alpha Gamma Delta, a sorority on campus. It has been such a great way to meet new girls and make Michigan a little smaller. I have also joined the snowboarding club, so hopefully this winter I’ll be going snowboarding a lot.”

Ms. Feltman is still unsure of her ultimate academic major. “I am thinking I will either apply to Ross, the business school here or major in biology and go pre-med,” she said. “If I take the business route, I want to go into finance and if I go pre-med, I want to be a pediatrician. I’m trying to take classes that have to do with both topics so I can see which one I enjoy more.”

Well known for her ability to set high goals and work hard to achieve them, Ms. Feltman was one of the top divers in Suffolk while competing for the Blue Devil swimming team. She was also a talented saber fencer for Huntington. The personable young woman makes friends easily.

“Although our football team hasn’t been the best this year, the games are still a lot of fun to go to and show off my school spirit,” Ms. Feltman said about Michigan. The Huntington alum attends games with her sorority sisters all dressed up in maize and blue.

“I’m also really excited for basketball season to start since it’s my favorite college sport to watch,” Ms. Feltman said. “I can’t wait to see if we have a good team this year!”

Ms. Feltman kept busy last summer, working in the golf shop at Engineers Country Club on weekends and in a local doctor’s office three days a week. Now she’s on one of the largest campuses in the country and the Huntington grad loves every minute of it.
