Huntington Drama Club Wins Three Hunting-Tony Awards
The Huntington High School drama club won three Hunting-Tony Awards during Monday night’s red carpet event at the John W. Engeman Theater in Northport.
Senior Chelsea Holmes won the Best Supporting Actress Award for her performance as the witch in the spring musical Into the Woods. Huntington also won Hunting-Tony’s for Best Costumes in the fall drama production of Anne of Green Gables and for Best Pit Orchestra for Into the Woods.
Huntington earned an astounding 16 Hunting-Tony Award nominations. The club is led by longtime faculty advisor Michael Schwendemann and veteran stage crew advisor Kenneth Harlan Gilbert, who has announced he will be retiring at the end of the school year.
Huntington senior Katherine Gerdes received two Best Lead Actress Award nominations. Huntington also received double nominations for Best Stage Crew, Best Scenery and Best Costumes.

• Best Lead Actress: Katherine Gerdes (Anne Shirley) – Anne of Green Gables
• Best Stage Crew: Anne of Green Gables
• Best Scenery: Anne of Green Gables
• Best Costumes: Anne of Green Gables
Huntington’s nominees in the musical category included:
• Best Lead Actor: Zachary Burden (Baker) – Into the Woods
• Best Lead Actress: Katherine Gerdes (Baker’s Wife) – Into the Woods
• Best Supporting Actor: Nicholas Luke Freiman (Cinderella’s Prince/Wolf) – Into the Woods
• Best Supporting Actress: Chelsea Holmes (Witch) – Into the Woods
• Best Male Vocalist: Declan Byrne (Jack) – Into the Woods
• Best Female Vocalist: Monica Owen (Cinderella) – Into the Woods
• Best Stage Crew: Into the Woods
• Best Scenery: Into the Woods
• Best Technical Production: Into the Woods
• Best Costumes: Into the Woods
• Best Orchestra Pit: Into the Woods
• Best Musical: Into the Woods
