Cirlincione’s Medal in State
Gymnastics Championships

Sam and Lucas Cirlincione spend long hours training, working to master routines on the high bar, parallel bars, vault, rings, pommel horse and floor. The brothers spend three hours a day, three days a week at Gold Medal Gymnastics refining their skills. It’s a big commitment that requires a large degree of sacrifice.

The Cirlincione’s realized the fruits of their training when each of them finished fourth for their ability level in the New York State Boys’ Gymnastics Championships in Binghamton.

The brothers are fine students in Washington Primary School’s dual language program. Sam is a second grader while Lucas is in fourth grade. They are both capable of demonstrating eye-popping feats of physical strength. 20 push-ups? That’s no problem for this pair, who can quickly execute any exercise on demand with perfect form.

During a string of gymnastics meets in the run-up to the state championships, the Cirlincione’s shined, earning armfuls of medals and the respect of fellow gymnasts, opposing coaches and crowds everywhere.

In the Level 4 seven-year old division, Sam Cirlincione sparkled, finishing fourth in the all-around standings out of 37 superb gymnasts in the state finals. The second grader won the state title in rings and was second in high bar, sixth in both pommel horse and parallel bars, seventh in vault and 18th in floor exercise following a dreaded mistake. Still, his overall finish was sensational.

Competing at Level 5 in the nine-year old division, Lucas Cirlincione was second in high bar, third in rings, fourth in parallel bars, sixth in pommel horse, seventh in floor exercise and 21st in vault after a mistake cost him dearly. The fourth grader finished fourth in the all-around standings out of 36 top gymnasts in the state.

The Cirlincione brothers are also budding wrestlers and lacrosse players and even played in flag football leagues last fall. “We both love sports and enjoy competing,” Lucas Cirlincione said. “It’s fun.”
