Finley Football-7 Compiles 3-3 Mark

Despite a small roster size, the J. Taylor Finley Middle School seventh grade football team battled its way to a 3-3 record. The Falcons were coached by Phil Lowe and Julian Watts.

“We had a young team,” Lowe said. “The team’s football fundamentals improved week-by-week. We were small in size, but big in heart. It was a hardworking group that was eager to please the coaches. They took instruction seriously and played much better toward the end of the season.”

The Falcons defeated Bellport (13-8), East Northport (25-6) and Hauppauge (7-6). Finley dropped games to Selden (48-13), Commack (28-13) and Candlewood (32-13).

Lowe said the team’s top players were Ulixis Colato (RB/LB), Vincent Caravetto (OL/DL), Tazadon Smith (RB/LB/DL) and Jonathan Koumas (TE/DL).

“Ulixis is a very aggressive tackler and quick, with good feet,” said Lowe about Colato. “He’s super competitive.”

Caravetto shined as a two-way lineman. “He’s a tough blocker, a good tackler and a very physical player,” Lowe said.

Smith proved to be a punishing running back and a hard-hitter on defense. “Tazadon is a tough runner, good tackler and game day player,” Lowe said.

Koumas was still another talented player. “He has the best hands on the team,” said Lowe about the tight end, who also starred on the defensive line. “He’s a good blocker with a good attitude.”

Finley closed out the season with 21 players on its roster.
