Erin Plante Pursues Her Dreams
at Morrisville
Erin Plante is doing what she loves at Morrisville State College in central New York. The Huntington High School Class of 2014 member is being studying, socializing and getting to new so many new people that have come into her life.
“Classes are great,” Ms. Plante said. “It is wonderful to be learning about the agricultural side of many things. My high school economics class has really helped with my economics class here, we just talk more about cows and farms than the typical economics class.”
The Huntington grad is studying animal/equine science. “There are definitely days when I think about and miss my teachers back home,” Ms. Plante said. “But, it has been a wonderful experience meeting many new people who are just down to the earth and share the same interests.”
Ms. Plante participated in the Western Suffolk BOCES-Wilson Tech equine studies program as a high school junior and senior. She studied at the Thomas School of Horsemanship in Melville each school day after she completed five periods of classes at Huntington High School. She was inducted into the National Technical Honor Society and became president of Wilson Tech’s Future Farmers of America chapter.
“I’m still riding horses up here even with all of the snow we are getting,” said Ms. Plante about her time at Morrisville. “College is definitely a great experience. Everyone should try and take it seriously while doing it.”
The Huntington grad has dreamed of establishing her own farm with horses and other animals. “The purpose of the farm would be to help American war veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder,” Ms. Plante said last spring. “So with that being said, my major might change because I need to get some physiology practice. Overall, I have an open mind.”
