Emma DeGennaro had a career day, scoring seven goals to power the Huntington High School girls’ lacrosse team to a 15-2 victory over visiting Shoreham-Wading River at Blue Devil Stadium. Katie Reilly added a goal and 10 assists.

Huntington led 11-0 at halftime. Alyssa Amorison notched two goals and three assists. Samantha Lynch tallied two goals and an assist. Emma Greenhill and Mackenzie Maloney also scored goals in the game.

Huntington goalies Anna Tesoriero (11 saves) and Taylor Moreno (three saves) combined to stop 14 shots.

Tim Beck to Mount St. Vincent

Huntington High School senior Tim Beck will be attending the College of Mount Saint Vincent in Riverdale in the fall. “I’m very excited to take my next step there,” the teenager said about the school where he will study sociology with a concentration in criminal justice.

Mr. Beck intends to play on Mount Saint Vincent’s NCAA Division III lacrosse team. The senior is currently on the Huntington varsity lax squad. He is currently participating in Huntington High School’s career internship program in the office of Georgia D. McCarthy, district director health, physical education and interscholastic athletics.

The teenager is looking forward to beginning class at the College of Mount Saint Vincent in the fall. “I want to be a police officer like my parents and this is a great place to start with a great program,” Mr. Beck said.

Fiordelisi Tallies Three Goals

The Huntington High School boys’ lacrosse team outlasted visiting Islip in an exciting game, 8-6. The Blue Devils jumped out to a 4-1 first quarter lead to take control.

Christian Fiordelisi tallied three goals and an assist to lead Huntington. Jeremy Gelb added two goals and two assists. Billy Martin notched a pair of goals. Tom Plant also scored in the contest. Ben Kocis picked up an assist. Don Tesoriero made seven saves in goal for the Blue Devils.

Tara Byrnes Belts HR

Tara Byrnes had two hits, including a homerun and drove in four runs to lift the Huntington softball team over visiting Comsewogue, 21-9. Kelsey Jamison went 2-for-2 and knocked in two runs for the Blue Devils. Ellyn Byrnes picked up the win on the mound.

Reilly Notches Four Goals

The Huntington girls’ lacrosse team took nothing for granted against visiting Bellport last Friday afternoon. The Blue Devils burst out of the starting gate and built a 10-0 lead by halftime en route to a 15-4 victory.

Katie Reilly had four goals and two assists. Samantha Lynch added three goals and four assists. Emma DeGennaro tallied three goals and an assist as Huntington’s powerful offense rolled.

Alyssa Amorison notched two goals and an assist. Emma Greenhill, Mackenzie Maloney and Isabella Piccola also scored goals for the Blue Devils.

Huntington used three goalies in the game. Anna Tesoriero made five saves. Taylor Moreno recorded four stops. Fiona Geier had two saves.

Big Afternoon for Moya

Garret Moya’s three goals and four assists propelled the Huntington boys’ lacrosse team past host Center Moriches, 12-2. The Blue Devils built what became an insurmountable 11-1 lead by halftime.

Christian Fiordelisi tallied three goals and two assists and Tom Plant added a pair of goals. Jeremy Gelb, Ben Kocis and Matt Whitcher each had one goal and one assist. Tim Mattiace also scored a goal in the game.

Huntington goalies Don Tesoriero (six saves), Justin Wiegold (two saves) and Cooper Wakhale (two saves) combined to stop 10 shots.

Lombardi Clinches Meet

Huntington junior Patrick Lombardi was on his game, capturing the deciding match in No. 3 singles to clinch the Blue Devil tennis team’s 4-3 victory over Walt Whitman.
Lombardi won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3 to bring a smile to the face of head coach Jamie Fishlow.

Boys’ Track Championships

The boys’ track and field division championships are set for May 19 and May 21 at Longwood High School. The Section XI championships and state qualifier is scheduled for May 30-31 at Port Jefferson High School. The New York State championships will be held on June 6-7 at Cicero-North Syracuse High School.

Two Goals and Two Assists for Kocis

The Huntington boys’ lacrosse team made it six straight victories by coasting past visiting Bellport, 11-3. The Blue Devils jumped out to a 3-0 first period lead and held a 5-2 halftime advantage before outscoring the Clippers in the second half, 6-1.

Ben Kocis scored twice and added two assists. Billy Martin had three goals and Tom Plant scored two goals and had an assist. Jeremy Gelb, Garret Moya, Matt Whitcher and Christian Fiordelisi also notched goals.

Finley Volleyball Wins Award

The J. Taylor Finley Middle School boys’ volleyball team has won a Section XI Sportsmanship Award for its “device,” as middle school leagues are known. The Falcons are coached by Chris Mooney.

Suffolk coaches assign sportsmanship ratings to their opponents following each contest and the scores are compiled by Section XI with the highest ranked team honored following the close of the season.

Reilly Changes Numbers

Katie Reilly has a different number. The sophomore Huntington High School lacrosse star wore No. 23 last spring, but has new digits on her jersey this year.

“My favorite number is 20, but Hannah Burnett wore it last year so I just waited until this year to wear it,” Reilly said. “I also wear it for soccer and basketball, so I just wanted to continue the trend.”
