Matthew Beeby Enjoying Ithaca College
Matthew Beeby has thoroughly enjoyed his first month at Ithaca College where the Huntington High School Class of 2013 member is majoring in emerging media.
“I’m really enjoying my time up here,” Mr. Beeby said. “Ithaca is an amazing college and college town.” Founded in 1892, Ithaca is a private co-ed college with a full-time undergraduate enrollment of about 6,200. It offers bachelor and master degree programs in business, communications, health sciences and human performance, humanities and sciences, and music.
“I’ve been taking a multitude of courses,” Mr. Beeby said about his first few weeks of college. “Being an emerging media major, I’m taking classes like Computer Science and Introduction to Media Industries. I’ve also been taking a class called Spark, which entails video chatting with successful Ithaca graduates in the communications industry. It’s really awesome to be able to hear from successful directors, producers and writers.”
During his four years at Huntington High School, Mr. Beeby was an outstanding student and an award-winning musician. A member of the school’s wind ensemble, jazz band and pit orchestra, he was simply sensational. He was a low brass section leader in the Blue Devil marching band for three years and a brass captain as a senior.
The emerging media major at Ithaca involves working with computers to develop games, apps, social networking sites, etc. Mr. Beeby is always up for a challenge and enjoys school and learning new things.
“I am also pursuing a minor in music so I’ve also been taking classes like Music Theory and performing in groups like the Ithaca Trombone Troupe and the jazz band,” Mr. Beeby said. “I am also taking a college seminar, which is basically just a college writing class that covers any multitude of interesting subjects. The seminar I am taking is called ‘The Real and the Imaginary in Pop Culture.’”
When he’s not attending class, studying or performing, Mr. Beeby has been exploring the greater Ithaca areas, playing pickup games of Ultimate Frisbee or just hanging around with his friends.
“Ithaca is a really lively place and has provided a lot of opportunities for me to get involved in the subjects I am really interested in,” Mr. Beeby said.
