Principal Announces Washington Ways Honorees
It’s hard to believe that the current school year is already in its third month, but it is and classes just keep humming right along at Washington Primary School. Teachers there recently honored a group of outstanding students who have been working hard and behaving in a safe, responsible and respectful manner.
Principal Marsha Neville recently announced the names of students named Washington Ways Award winners for October. Their classmates cheered the youngsters and each one was given an attractive certificate and asked to pose for a commemorative photo.
The “red ticket” honorees included Charlotte Cassatto, Josue Ramirez-Velasquez, Marin Mullaly, Anastasia Sarducci, Sean Egan, Abby Schueller, Harry Uvena, Maggie O’Toole, Michael Mendikyan, Michael Gaitan, Megan Lewis, Emma Bellew, Karen Ulloa-Loya, Cristian Garay-Dominguez, Heiddy Maldonado-Diaz, Jason Santos, Milianette Gonzalez-Cortes, Nicholas Smalling, Allan Martinez-Lopez and Miguel Avalos.
Washington’s “blue ticket” classes for October included those of second grade teacher Maria Lanzot and kindergarten teacher Debbie Quiles. “It is always enjoyable to recognize the efforts of hardworking students,” Mrs. Neville said. “We gave a wonderful group of young people in our school this year.”
Red tickets are presented to individuals for notable good behavior outside of classrooms, including hallways, buses, the playground and cafeteria, etc. At the end of the month, the student in each class with the greatest number of red tickets is recognized with a special certificate.
Entire classes can earn blue tickets for positive group behavior out-of-the-classroom. Blue tickets are also awarded to the two classes within the building with the most tickets overall. Students enjoy being cited and collecting the colorful tickets.
White tickets are awarded weekly for good behaviors and actions in the classroom. White ticket winners are honored with special recognition in their classroom at the end of each week and their names are announced every Monday morning.
