Moya and Rosenberg Receive Senior Video Awards

Daniel Moya and Melissa Rosenberg are very good at what they do. The Huntington High School seniors make short films. They put a lot of thought and effort into their work and spend enormous amounts of time ironing out the smallest little details.

Mr. Moya is headed to the University of Southern California's film school and Ms. Rosenberg is destined for Emerson College, where she plans to study to study film, with an emphasis on post-production.

Huntington art teacher Amy Worth presented the two teenagers with Outstanding Achievement in Video Arts awards at last week's senior academic awards night in the high school auditorium. The recognition came as no surprise to the pair's classmates, who hold the duo in high esteem.

The duo's short 12-minute film, "Clowns Are People, Too," was the grand finale at this year's Huntington High School Film Festival, which was held at the Cinema Arts Centre.

"It was truly humbling to receive the awards," said Mr. Moya, who also earned several other awards over the course of the evening last week. "I was very touched to have been recognized by the people around me and I will do my absolute best to live my life in a way that embodies the meaning of the awards."

The senior said the highlight of his final year in high school has been bonding with people in the Class of 2013. "Through saying goodbye, we have found a way to become closer; more of a family than we already were," Mr. Moya said. "It is a truly incredible event."

Ms. Rosenberg has also been on a roll in Huntington's video program. "My senior year has been great," she said. "I've been working hard and getting excited for college."

The highlight of the year for the talented filmmaker was working on "Clowns Are People, Too," Ms. Rosenberg said, "because I'm so proud of how it came out and the experience I had making it was awesome, especially because the cops got called on us while filming. "I'll definitely never forget that."

Mr. Moya's summer plans include "working, going to the city, enjoying concerts, writing, and, of course, seeing as many movies as humanly possible," he said. "I am going to enjoy life here in New York for the two months we all have until I start calling USC my home."

Ms. Rosenberg is headed to Europe this summer with EF Tours. She will be traveling to Berlin, Prague, Switzerland and Paris. "A lot of my closest friends are going on the trip as well," she said.
