Flower Hill School Goes Red
Flower Hill Primary School's faculty and staff joined the American Heart Association's battle against heart disease by donning red and donating to the organization.
This marks the 10th anniversary of the American Heart Association's Go Red for Women campaign, which seeks to raise funds and awareness to fight the No. 1 killer of women in the United States: heart disease.
As she has done many times in the past, Flower Hill School nurse Diana Pirolo volunteered to coordinate the local observance of National Wear Red Day. Participants received a Go Red pin for donating to the cause.
"Everyone is so eager to donate and wear their Go Red pin," Ms. Pirolo said about her Flower Hill colleagues. The nurse has spent time educating faculty and staff members about the scourge of heart disease and sensible steps they can take to lead a healthy lifestyle.
"Since the Go Red for Women movement started in 2004, more than 627,000 women's lives have been saved," according to American Heart Association's website. "But the fight is far from over. Now is the time to shout louder, stand stronger and Go Red for Women. That's why we challenge you or your group to shine the spotlight on heart disease in women by helping to turn America Red from coast to coast through February."
