Huntington Freshman's Art Selected
for Exhibit

She's been a ninth grader at Huntington High School for only two months, but Jean Miller is already making a name for herself. The teenager's painting of the Huntington Cemetery has been selected for an exhibition at the Main Street Petite Gallery.

Ms. Miller entered the Huntington Art Council's "Nightmare on Main Street" art competition with high hopes. "Jean is a freshman and is very serious about her art," said Kristin Singer, a Huntington High School art teacher who works with Ms. Miller each day. The teenager is also taking classes at the Village Artist.

The student exhibition will run from October 26 through November 5. It will feature Halloween related artwork. An artist's reception has been scheduled for Friday, October 26 from 6-8 p.m. The juried art show is the first of its kind by the Huntington Arts Council. Best in show prizes for the contest are set at $50 for each senior division (grades 9-12) and junior division (grades 8 and below).

The show was juried by Dan Chrisoffel, a national and exhibiting international artist who has studies at the Art Students' League, the National Academy, Pratt Institute, SUNY New Paltz and LIU Post. He is currently a board member of the Art League of Long Island, a member of the Bay Walk Nautical Arts Committee in Port Washington, a visiting artist at the Great Neck Arts Center and a guest lecturer at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The Huntington Arts Council is trying to make the Halloween art show a special one, complete with black light and Saturday hours.
