Josh Stickell Makes Every Minute Count
Josh Stickell has been in the fold since second grade. The Huntington High School senior came to the district as a second grader after moving here from Flushing. He's enjoyed a great run and is determined to close out his career on a high note at next June's graduation.
The teenager is an award-winning performer, having won last year's Huntington Music Idol competition. Mr. Stickell has been in the All-County chorus for the past two years and in the Huntington chamber choir for three years. He has earned a spot in the All-State mixed choir.
A member of Natural Helpers since his sophomore year, Mr. Stickell has been an intern with high school social studies teacher Jordan Gould for the past two years. This year, the senior was voted Most Eccentric/Music/Theatrical by his classmates. The teenager is proud of the "good bonds" he created "between me, teachers and students," Mr. Stickell said. "I've loved every single solitary moment."
Mr. Stickell's favorite teachers have been Mr. Gould, math teacher Lynn Hendricks and music teacher and choral director Veronica Mainville. He's taken Global Vision and American Dream with Mr. Gould and Algebra II/Trig and AP Stats with Ms. Hendricks and thoroughly enjoyed the courses. The senior said he's "having a good time" in AP Stats right now. He's worked with Mrs. Mainville for the past four years and closely collaborated with her as a chamber choir member since his sophomore year.
"My advice to freshmen is to not be too freaked out about coming to the 'big ole bad high school'" Mr. Stickell said. "It's honestly a lot of fun if you make it! Try different things until you find that little crevice you fit into and happiness will surely come. Never be afraid to ask questions and never forget to have fun!"
